Sandy
Adopted May 2023
Sandy was a gorgeous Haflinger mare that was pulled from a kill pen in March 2023. She had probably once been a cart-horse and then a broodmare. She was sweet, social, easy to handle, and very vocal! Sandy was adopted by a local resident and is enjoying her retirement in a lush pasture while occasionally giving pony rides at birthday parties.

Adopted April 2023
April was a beautiful registered Arabian mare with a social and interactive nature. She came to VEWS as an owner surrender and found her forever home with a loving and caring family who will give April her happily-ever-after.

Jack
Adopted April 2023
Jack, along with his buddy Whiskey, was a Quarter Horse that came to VEWS as an owner surrender. Jack was one of the sweetest, calmest geldings that has walked through our gates. He and Whiskey found their forever home together and get to enjoy a lifetime of pampering and love with their new family.

Whiskey
Adopted April 2023
Whiskey, along with his best pal Jack, was a Quarter Horse that came to VEWS as an owner surrender. Whiskey was curious, playful and interested in everything around him. He and Jack found their forever home together and will thoroughly enjoy a lifetime of pampering and love with their new family.

Savina
Adopted February 2023
Savina was a very pretty bay OTTB mare that came off the track, had a family for a short time, and then found herself at VEWS in December 2022. She was smart, sweet and beautiful under saddle. She found her forever family and a lifetime of love in West Virginia.

Theo
Adopted February 2023
Theo was a volunteer favorite at VEWS. He was a very handsome Missouri Fox Trotter cross gelding with a soft and sensitive personality. He joined VEWS as an owner-surrender in October 2022. He had a brand we were unable to identify. Theo was adopted by the same family that adopted Aries.

Hudson
Adopted August 2022
Hudson, along with Jasmine, was a Morgan that VEWS pulled from a kill pen in June 2022. He carried a sense of old-world manners and respect about him. He appeared to have been used as a cart horse in his former life. He and Jasmine settled into their new herd with Beau and are living out their happily-ever-after.

Jasmine
Adopted August 2022
Jasmine was a registered Morgan that VEWS pulled from a kill pen in June 2022. She was spirited and always aware of what was happening around her. She appeared to have been used as a cart horse. She, along with Hudson, was adopted by the same family who adopted Beau.

Beau
Adopted July 2022
Beau was a handsome, spirited Hanoverian cross gelding that came to VEWS due to the sudden loss of his owner in February 2022. His previous owner found him at an auction a few years prior to her passing, so he had been bounced around a bit. He had a curious and cautious nature. He was adopted by a family with a teenaged daughter and together they have helped him learn to trust again.

Luna
Adopted July 2022
Luna was a stunningly photogenic, calm and sweet Mountain Pleasure Horse cross mare that came to VEWS as an owner surrender in April 2022. She found her “heart-human” and together they have forged a life-long bond.

Tucker
Adopted July 2022
Tucker was a calm, quiet pony-sized Mountain Pleasure Horse cross gelding that VEWS pulled from a kill pen in May 2022. He was just about as sweet and gentle as they come. He had a fused hind hock that limited the amount of weight he could carry and the length of time he could be ridden. He was adopted by a family with several small children and spends his days being pampered by them.

Ruby
Adopted June 2022
Ruby is a gorgeous, energetic mare that came to VEWS as an owner-surrender. She quickly found her forever home and we can't wait to see their partnership grow!

Harper
Adopted June 2022
VEWS rescued Harper from a kill pen in February 2022. She has some scarring indicative of being used as a cart horse in her former life. She is a gem to handle as she is calm, quiet, and respectful of boundaries. Harper is now enjoying her new home and is getting all the love she can get.

Takala
Adopted May 2022
Takala was rescued from a kill pen in December. While spending time nursing her back to health, we saw just how much her friendly, sweet spirit became a beacon of light. She was adored by us all! Takala has found her forever home with her special person.

Nala
Adopted March 2022
Nala arrived with 2 other Saddlebred mares from a kill pen in North Carolina ill and emaciated. Fast forward to today, and Nala has rebounded into the happy, healthy, inquisitive horse that she undoubtedly once was. One of the VEWS volunteer families adopted Nala and we couldn’t be more thrilled that this deserving mare has found her home.

Fireball
Adopted February 2022
Fireball & Rosebud arrived together at VEWS in December 2021 and were adopted together. We’re thrilled that Rosebud and Fireball are bringing joy and cuteness to their new home!

Honey
Adopted January 2022
Honey was only with our rescue for a short time, but she left an impression on all our hearts. As the saying goes, she is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. Honey went to her forever home with Wings of Hope Ranch where she will be an equine minister to children facing conflicts and challenges.

Penny
Adopted December 2021
Penny was an owner surrender that arrived at VEWS in November 2021. Penny's adopter fell in love with her calm, sweet, steady personality and knew she had to join the family. Penny and Oriana were adopted together.

Oriana
Adopted December 2021
Oriana arrived with 2 other Saddlebred mares from a kill pen in North Carolina ill and emaciated. Oriana is a sweet and intelligent mare. Her beautiful golden eyes are aware of everything happening around her. Approach her with gentleness and consistency and she will share her heart with you. Oriana and Penny were adopted together to a loving home.

Aries
Adopted November 2021
Aries arrives with 2 other Saddlebred mares from a kill pen in North Carolina ill and emaciated. Aries stayed with our foster barn while she was given the love and nourishment needed to thrive, and found her forever home in the beautiful mountains of Virginia.

Zimbob
Adopted August 2021
Zimbob was an owner surrender who arrived at VEWS in January 2021. He had a spirited, quirky personality. A follower of the VEWS Facebook page adopted him and he is loving his new home!

Murphy
Adopted August 2021
Murphy was a 16 y.o. Saddlebred cross that came to VEWS via the PA auction pipeline. He had a gentle demeanor and found his person and his forever home in North Carolina.

Xena
Adopted June 2021
Xena was a spirited and sweet OTTB mare that animal control brought to VEWS malnourished, despondent, and with a severe hock wound. VEWS volunteers nursed her back to health - physically and mentally over the next 10 months. Xena was adopted by a VEWS volunteer and continues to be spoiled rotten.

Daisy
Adopted January 2021
Daisy, a Paint mare, was pulled from a kill pen and then given to us from another rescue. She spent some time at our training barn, was adopted out
from VEWS, and then shortly returned to us. Having tested positive for EPM, she was treated at VEWS. In order to provide an environment with consistent handling, one of our volunteers sponsored her at a foster barn where she could receive that
one-on-one attention. Of course, that volunteer fell in love with her and adopted her shortly thereafter.

Cache
Adopted March 2021
Cache was a 19 y.o. bay OTTB mare. Cache spent some time as a broodmare after coming off of the track and eventually ended up at Moore’s auction. Cache was an old soul looking for a soft place to spend her retirement. She and Buddha had a long history together and were able to be adopted out as a companion pair.

Kearney
Adopted February 2021
Kearney was a 9 y.o. chestnut OTTB gelding that was surrendered to VEWS by his owner. He was a very handsome fella with a sweet personality. After some refresher training, he found his forever home in North Carolina.

Maggie
Adopted November 2020
Maggie, a sweet and gentle
QH mare spent some time at
a lesson barn. Although her owner was going to donate her to the lesson program, the barn manager felt Maggie would be better suited with one person/
owner rather than multiple students. A follower of the VEWS Facebook page fell in love with her, giving her a
forever home.

Cisco
Adopted April 2020
Cisco, a Tennessee Walker gelding owner-surrender viewed the world with patience and dignity. He spent just a short time at VEWS as he captured the heart of one of our volunteers the day he arrived.

Renegade
Adopted April 2020
Renegade, a QH/Paint gelding
that was originally pulled from a
feed lot, bounced around a bit
finding a soft place to land at
VEWS. He loved people and had a
lot of personality. To show his
stubborn streak, he seemed to
pierce you with his albino left
eye until he decided you could be
trusted. Renegade spoke to the
heart of a VEWS volunteer and
became a part of their family.

Buddha
Adopted March 2021
Buddha was a 16 y.o. flea-bitten gray OTTB mare. After Buddha came off of the track, she spent a short period of time as a broodmare, and eventually found herself with arthritis in a PA kill pen. Buddha and Cache were adopted out together as companion horses.

Stormy
Adopted September 2020
Stormy, a bay OTTB gelding,
spent some time in a riding
program after coming off the
track and then ended up
at auction. Although he
punctured his right eye at
a previous rescue, Stormy
learned how to navigate his
world seeing with just one eye.
Stormy spent some time at a
VEWS-affiliated training barn
before finding his forever home.

Bentley
Adopted August 2020
Bentley, a super sweet senior Chestnut unregistered Thoroughbred was rescued from auction after supposedly
being a lesson horse. He had exceptional ground manners and was very easy going. Bentley found his forever home on a beautiful farm
with several other horses. He
spends his time trail riding.

Fancy
Adopted September 2020
Fancy, a young gray Appendix
mare had been pulled from the
auction pipeline and bounced
around a little before coming
to VEWS. She was sweet and
spunky and liked to keep
everyone on their toes. Fancy
was adopted by one of our
volunteers who lavished
her with love and attention,
and subsequently brought out
the best in her.

Freya
Adopted January 2020
Freya, a Quarter Horse/Arabian
chestnut mare with a spunky
personality came to VEWS from a
feed lot. She had lost some range
of motion in her left front knee due
to an old injury and subsequent
arthritis. She was a very social
horse having definite opinions
about things. She found a special
bond and her forever home with
one of our volunteers.

Charlie
Adopted November 2019
Charlie was a 12 yo Quarter Horse gelding. He came to VEWS from Moore’s Auction in Pennsylvania. Charlie was an athletic, friendly and kind-hearted beauty. He and Ted were adopted out together as riding companions.

Dakota
Adopted January 2020
Dakota, a young Paint gelding, was taken by local Animal Control after being found severely neglected and malnourished. After nursing him back to health, they gave him to VEWS to prepare for adoption. He was sweet-
natured, curious and very playful. Dakota quickly found his forever home
with one of our volunteers.

Winchester
Adopted March 2020
Winchester, a sweet, handsome senior Draft cross was pulled from the auction pipeline. He was very quiet and reserved, showing signs of a difficult past, but seemed to understand that he was now in hands that wouldn’t harm him. As Winchester settled in to the
daily routine at VEWS, we were blessed to have an adopter reach out to us and offer him a forever home where he could get the special care he needed and experience the peace and love he deserved.

Finn
Adopted March 2020
Finn, a Morgan gelding that came to VEWS via the auction pipeline, sought to please and would win anyone over with his kind demeanor. He was extremely responsive on the ground and under saddle with impeccable manners. He had a long-standing habit of cribbing, both in stall and out in the field. Finn was adopted out to a private owner and found his place as a lesson horse.
Bonus – he reportedly hasn’t
cribbed again.

River
Adopted April 2020
River, a young, sweet and friendly
Paint mare was surrendered to
VEWS by her owner. She was
willing and intelligent and held
the potential to train in a variety
of different things. Having a slight
frame, she needed a small rider.
River found her forever home and
became a show pony.

Ted
Adopted November 2019
Ted was a 21 year old Spotted Saddle Horse/TWH surrendered to VEWS by his owner. He had a beautiful gait and wonderful ground manners. He and Charlie were adopted out together to a great home in Virginia.

Willow
Adopted September 2019
Willow was a bay colored QH, approximately 19 years old. She had the sweetest, most gentle personality. She found her forever home locally and spends her time giving the grandkids rides and watching the neighbor's goats.

Cien
Adopted July 2019
Cien was an easy-going 9 y.o. TWH mare. Cien came to us from the Cranbury Auction in New Jersey. Cien found her forever home locally with a friend of VEWS.
