2022 VEWS ALUMNI
Gypsy
RIP August 2022
One of the most difficult parts of caring for horses is knowing when their bodies can’t keep up with their enormous hearts. Sweet Gypsy, who came to VEWS six months ago, struggled to recover from arthritis and a degenerative disease process that made her quality of life much diminished despite dedicated and comprehensive care from VEWS’ volunteers, veterinarian, and farrier. Because Gypsy’s prognosis for a life free from pain was poor, VEWS made the very difficult decision to end her pain and let Gypsy travel the rainbow bridge. Sometimes, doing our best for the horses means making hard choices for them. Gypsy’s last days were full of love, care, and treats. We will all miss Gypsy’s kind eye, bossy mare personality, and beautiful dappled coat. Our volunteers said it best, as they wished Gypsy farewell
Beau
Adopted July 2022
Beau was a handsome, spirited Hanoverian cross gelding that came to VEWS due to the sudden loss of his owner in February 2022. His previous owner found him at an auction a few years prior to her passing, so he had been bounced around a bit. He had a curious and cautious nature. He was adopted by a family with a teenaged daughter and together they have helped him learn to trust again.

Ruby
Adopted June 2022
Ruby is a gorgeous, energetic mare that came to VEWS as an owner-surrender. She quickly found her forever home and we can't wait to see their partnership grow!
Nala
Adopted March 2022
Nala arrived with 2 other Saddlebred mares from a kill pen in North Carolina ill and emaciated. Fast forward to today, and Nala has rebounded into the happy, healthy, inquisitive horse that she undoubtedly once was. One of the VEWS volunteer families adopted Nala and we couldn’t be more thrilled that this deserving mare has found her home.

Honey
Adopted January 2022
Honey was only with our rescue for a short time, but she left an impression on all our hearts. As the saying goes, she is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. Honey went to her forever home with Wings of Hope Ranch where she will be an equine minister to children facing conflicts and challenges.
Hudson
Adopted August 2022
Hudson, along with Jasmine, was a Morgan that VEWS pulled from a kill pen in June 2022. He carried a sense of old-world manners and respect about him. He appeared to have been used as a cart horse in his former life. He and Jasmine settled into their new herd with Beau and are living out their happily-ever-after.
Luna
Adopted July 2022
Luna was a stunningly photogenic, calm and sweet Mountain Pleasure Horse cross mare that came to VEWS as an owner surrender in April 2022. She found her “heart-human” and together they have forged a life-long bond.

Harper
Adopted June 2022
VEWS rescued Harper from a kill pen in February 2022. She has some scarring indicative of being used as a cart horse in her former life. She is a gem to handle as she is calm, quiet, and respectful of boundaries. Harper is now enjoying her new home and is getting all the love she can get.
Fireball
Adopted February 2022
Fireball & Rosebud arrived together at VEWS in December 2021 and were adopted together. We’re thrilled that Rosebud and Fireball are bringing joy and cuteness to their new home!
Jasmine
Adopted August 2022
Jasmine was a registered Morgan that VEWS pulled from a kill pen in June 2022. She was spirited and always aware of what was happening around her. She appeared to have been used as a cart horse. She, along with Hudson, was adopted by the same family who adopted Beau.
Tucker
Adopted June 2022
Tucker was a calm, quiet pony-sized Mountain Pleasure Horse cross gelding that VEWS pulled from a kill pen in May 2022. He was just about as sweet and gentle as they come. He had a fused hind hock that limited the amount of weight he could carry and the length of time he could be ridden. He was adopted by a family with several small children and spends his days being pampered by them.

Takala
Adopted May 2022
Takala was rescued from a kill pen in December. While spending time nursing her back to health, we saw just how much her friendly, sweet spirit became a beacon of light. She was adored by us all! Takala has found her forever home with her special person.
Rosebud
Adopted February 2022
Fireball & Rosebud arrived together at VEWS in December 2021 and were adopted together. We’re thrilled that Rosebud and Fireball are bringing joy and cuteness to their new home!
